Glastonbury Latest

  • ETC vote winners announced!

The thousands of votes have been counted - and we're pleased to announce that the winners of this year's Emerging Talent Competition People's Choice vote are Edinburgh-based folk-poppers Mayhew (pictured, above). They join the judges' 11 choices in this month's live finals, where one act will win a main stage slot at the 40th Anniversary Glastonbury Festival. Hear some of their tunes at their MySpace.

But that's not all. Unfortunately, one of the judges' 11 picks is not able to make it to the live final. Dizraeli from Dizraeli and the Small Gods will be en route to Cairo, Egypt to perform another gig. As he's made the  admirable vow never to fly again, he's making the trip by train, which means he's had to pull out of the competition (though we will be passing his demo CD to our stage bookers). You can actually follow his journey to Egypt through a daily blog at http://unplaned.com/.

That means the second-place act from the People's Choice vote - emotive Birmingham band Faded Cadence (pictured, right) - will also now go though to the live finals. Check them out at their MySpace by clicking here.

A big thanks to all of the bands that took part, and to all of you who voted. Look out for more news on the live finals soon.

  • Cooks and kitchen helpers needed

To cater for 1,000 site staff around this year's Festival, we are looking for experienced/qualified chefs and cooks, as well as kitchen helpers who need to be hard working, but not necessarily qualified.

They will either be employed from the beginning of June until mid July; or from 17th June – 2nd July. Shifts will be about 8 hours a day, with some early and some late shifts.

All chefs, cooks and helpers will be paid. They will also get a staff pass to the Festival and some time off during the Festival itself. But they will have to work during event days. This is hard work, rather then just an easy way into the Festival.

Staff will have to bring their own camping equipment, but food, showers and washing machines are provided.

If you are interested please send a CV detailing relevant experience and any food hygiene or other qualifications to worthy@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk - stipulating whether you are looking to be employed for two weeks or seven weeks.

  • ETC voting closes on Monday

Don't forget, you only have until Monday (Mar 8) at 10am to help choose the 12th finalist for this year's Emerging Talent Competition, via our People's Choice vote.

The 10 shortlisted bands are listed below. Head on over to Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition on Q's website to have a listen then vote for your favourite. Plus, everyone who votes will be put in a draw to win tickets to this year's Festival.
