Music has gone a bit crazy of late – what with all the drum machines and auto tune – but it is refreshing to stumble across a band that are ignoring the trends and making really good, ‘proper’ indie. Guitar, drums, presto.

Frightened Rabbit aren’t your typical winkle-pickered indie band however. They have a very mature, refined sound which is unsurprising considering their latest offering  ‘Nothing Like You’ is from their third album, ‘The Winter of Mixed Drinks’. The Glasgow 5-piece have perfected and moulded their sound over time into something that will really turn heads this year.

Set for release on Feb 22, Nothing Like You is a hot piece of runaway rock ‘n’ roll.
Straying away from the loutish lad-rock favoured by bands like The Enemy and The Courteeners, Nothing Like You proves quite the opposite; rubbing shoulders with heart rendering bands such as The Maccabees and Mumford & Sons.
It combines the delicious Scottishness of main man Scott Hutchison’s vocals with the sort of muffled soft rock sound that people fall in love to. It is a soothing yet loud record, boasting elements of folk music while still retaining a rocky edginess.
With storming records like this coming from an already much-anticipated album due out on March 1, Frightened Rabbit look set to be one of the real successes of 2010.
